Work Plans & Execution

Import from CSV

Most people arrive with a plan already built. Import it rather than retype it: the columns are mapped for you and the indentation becomes the hierarchy.

The importer takes an existing 100-day plan, integration plan or master schedule out of Excel, Smartsheet or CSV and turns it into a live work plan.

Preparing the file

  • One header row, then one row per task.
  • Keep your indentation. The importer reads it as the hierarchy, so a plan that already nests sections and tasks arrives nested.
  • Include what you have: task name, owner, start and end or due date, status, percentage complete. Missing columns are not fatal; they are simply blank on the other side.
  • Dates in any common format. Owners as names or email addresses; email addresses match to existing team members.

Running the import

  1. Open the Import page for the project, or Import CSV on the work plan.
  2. Upload the file. The columns are mapped automatically, and you are shown the mapping before anything is written.
  3. Correct anything mapped wrongly, then confirm.

After the import

Check three things: that the hierarchy came through the way you expected, that the dates land inside your project phases, and that the owners resolved to real people rather than to text. Then set RAG status, because a plan imported from a spreadsheet usually arrives with a percentage complete but no status, and status is what the reporting reads.

Importing more than once

You can import again to bring in another workstream's plan. Import is additive, so importing the same file twice gives you the tasks twice; if you are re-importing a corrected version, clear the earlier tasks first.
